Creation Studies: Billions of dead things

Genesis 6-9
  1. A world-wide, global flood would have left evidence.
  2. Biological Evidence:
    1. The decrease in biodiversity is a consequence and biological impact of the Flood.
  3. Geological Evidence:
    1. Marine fossils found on mountains, including the Himalayas!
    2. Fossils = Rapid burial of organisms
    3. Lack of erosion between strata
    4. Canyon formation can occur very quickly
    5. Ice Age
  4. Historical Evidence:
    1. There are more than 200 flood related stories from around the world!
    2. 95% say there was a global flood!
    3. As the people spread out from the Tower of Babel, they would have taken the knowledge of the Flood with them.
    4. Evidence of Noah’s ark in traditional Chinese!
      1. The eight people in the vessel were Noah, his wife, his three sons, and their three wives on a very large boat.
      2.
  5. Where did the water come from?
    1. “…the floodgates of the heavens were opened. And rain fell on the earth forty days and forty nights.” There was also water that came when “the springs of the great deep burst forth.”  (Genesis 7:11-12)
    2. Possible sources include geysers, volcanoes, or deep sea vents.
    3. There is still a significant amount of groundwater that is under the earth’s surface.
    4. Scientists have found ‘oceans worth’ of water bound to rocks deep within the surface of the earth.
  6. How did the animals fit?
    1. Noah’s ark was not a typical shape and size for a boat. The dimensions given in Scripture would provide the equivalent volume of roughly 520 railroad box cars.
    2. The animals we are concerned about are mammals, birds, reptiles and amphibians, but not insects, marine organisms or microorganisms.
    3. Noah was not taking a pair of every species, but representatives of each kind, and the number of kinds is far smaller than the number of species.
    4. Noah would have needed only between 2,000 and 3,000 animals to bring on all of the representative kinds on the ark.
  7. What did the carnivores eat?
    1. Carnivorous animals are known to eat plants and fruit.
    2. Bears eat berries. Dogs eat carrots.  Perhaps most surprising is the fact that alligators and crocodiles consume significant quantities of fruit and vegetation.
    3. In Genesis 1:29-30, God made green plants and fruit to be food for man and all creatures. Therefore, all creatures were initially vegetarian.
  8. Conclusion:
    1. The testimony from Scripture, history, fossils and rocks themselves cry out of God’s judgment against sin.
    2. The fossil record is a record of death, and teaches us about the wages of sin.
    3. These should stand as a witness for us that God’s judgment and wrath are poured out upon sin.
    4. Don’t pack up yet.
